2015 White Coat Ceremony at UIC College of Nursing
The White Coat Ceremony was held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Student Center West. The ceremony, held for the second time in as many years, symbolizes the student’s life transition into nursing education. It affirms the student's commitment to becoming a professional nurse who provides compassionate and high quality care. Keynote speaker and doctoral candidate, Laren Riesche, BS, MSN, RN gave a creative and motivating speech to the new students. In addition to "cloaking" with their CON lab coats, each student received a lapel pin and collectively recited the UIC CON Oath - adapted from the Florence Nightingale Pledge and the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses.
Dr. Terri E. Weaver, Dean of the UIC College of Nursing explained, "The White Coat Ceremony today was both celebratory and inspiring. It was one of the few times students from all of our campus’ come together. Both BSN and MS students received their white coats as well as their Humanism and Excellence pins followed by taking the nursing oath. Impressive was the diversity of our new student body and their excitement about entering the profession. It was a indeed a celebration of nursing."
Following the ceremony, there was a reception at the college. Additional photos can found on Facebook at UIC Nursing!
