UIC Nursing Professor Holli A. DeVon Elected 1st Chair-Elect of CANS
UIC College of Nursing Professor Holli A. DeVon, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN was elected Chair-Elect of the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS), the scientific arm of the American Academy of Nursing. This was the first election ever for the position; formerly it was filled through appointment. As explained in an article in Nursing Outlook announcing the results:
"In response to member interest in having more opportunities to become involved in the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS) and the growing needs of the organization, elections by the full membership were held to fill the Chair-Elect position and two new positions: the Councilor for Finance and Records and the Councilor at Large and the Nominations Committee. After a month-long period of voting, the results are in!" 1
The article goes on to describe Dr. DeVon's extensive involvement in professional organizations ranging from CANS itself to the Midwest Nursing Research Society Foundation and the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing. "Dr. DeVon," the article continues, "will assume her position in March 2015 and will serve until 2017."
