  • Susan WalshSusan M. Walsh, clinical assistant professor, has received the 2018 Institute of Medicine of Chicago Global Humanitarian Award.

     

     

     

  • Eighteen UIC College of Nursing students completed a clinical rotation in Cook County Jail during the spring semester. The public health practicum is one of three justice health initiatives of the UIC College of Nursing that are getting a boost under a one-year grant from the Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation.

     

  • Having welcomed its first students in fall 2017 at the Rockford Campus, the College of Nursing's concentration in rural nursing is now available to DNP students at any of the six UIC Nursing campuses.\

     

  • UIC College of NursiDean Terri Weaver with Penn Dean Antonia Villarruelng Dean Terri E. Weaver was chosen as the 2018 recipient of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Outstanding Alumni Award. The award was conferred at a Student, Alumni and Faculty Awards Program on May 11 during the university’s annual Alumni Weekend.

     

  • Lorna FinneganLorna Finnegan executive associate dean and associate professor at the UIC College of Nursing, was installed as president of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) at the group's annual conference in April. She will serve a two-year term.

     

     

  • A new student group, Students Nurses for Social Justice, organized a "Stop the Bleed" training for those interested in learning how to administer bleeding-control techniques in an emergency.

     

     

  • While getting her nursing degree at UIC, Jessica Wardach participated in a full slate of volunteer experiences – working the Chicago Marathon medical tent, organizing blood and toy drives and serving as a peer mentor. But she said those experiences might not have been possible without the help of scholarships.

     

  • It took less than two minutes for most students to take part in a fundraiser for the first-ever College of Nursing class gift. But those two minutes were pretty grueling.

     

     

     

  • On March 22, Judith Heinschel, PhD, PMHNP-BC, received the 2018 Excellence in Nursing Award from the Stateline Nurses Network. Heinschel is clinical assistant professor based at the college's Rockford campus.

     

     

  • The smell of golden, crispy egg rolls and steamed tapioca dumplings filled the College of Nursing's Third Floor Event Center on Apr. 16, as Thai dancers wearing brightly-colored silk dresses and sabais, or shawls, twirled to the jingling beat of a Thai xylophone and drums.
