  • UIC is ranked No. 8 in the 2017 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs in bachelor’s degrees.

    UIC offers three online bachelor’s degree programs, with our college’s RN-to-BSN program accounting for 87% of that student body. (The two other programs are in health information management and business administration.) Online learning combines the high quality academic rigor of UIC with the flexibility of any-time access to learning, said Gayla Stoner, executive director of UIC Extended Campus.

  • The University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing has received a $3.25 million federal grant to continue its research to identify risk and protective factors related to drinking and drinking-related problems among sexual-mPhoto of Prof. Hughesinority — lesbian or bisexual — women.

    The five-year study, led by Tonda Hughes, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor of Health Systems Science and Associate Dean for Global Health, will examine how stressful experiences in a person’s life — childhood sexual abuse, adult sexual assault or discrimination based on race/ethnicity or sexual orientation — are related to psychological suffering and hazardous drinking in adult sexual-minority women.

    Now in its 17th year, Hughes’ study is the longest-running project of its kind, and one of the only longitudinal studies focusing on sexual-minority women’s drinking and health.

UIC College of Nursing faculty are working with University of Rwanda Masters students as part of the groundbreaking Rwanda Human Resources for Health Program. We are looking for volunteer tutors willing to assist UR students with calculations and statistical process via email/videoconferencing during Spring 2017 (Jan 3-May 15, 2017). UIC Students may be eligible for recognition via UIC Impact's Co-Curricular Transcript (go.uic.edu/UICimpact).

  • Dr. Kelly Rosenberger is partnering with the Rural Medical Education Program and Rural Pharm program to develop the curriculum. It will be a 4-year program aimed at meeting the need for rural communities to have more available healthcare nearby. She said these programs are crucial to ensure that farmers can receive the medical attention they need.
