  • When Hurricane Maria hit the Caribbean in September, it devastated Puerto Rico, killing dozens, flooding neighborhoods, wiping out the electrical grid and water service, and making it difficult to access much-needed resources. For a group of UIC College of Nursing students who were already planning a mission trip, news of the hurricane's catastrophic wake caused them to focus their sights on Puerto Rico.

  • Paul Kuehnert, DNP ’12, MS ’91, RN, an associate vice president at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, has been selected to receive the 2018 Distinguished Alumnus Award, the highest honor given to a UIC College of Nursing graduate.

     

  • Professors Carol Estwing Ferrans and Shannon Zenk formally took their places in two prestigious roles within the College of Nursing at an investiture ceremony on Thursday, Apr. 5.

  • On Wednesday, Apr. 4, the UIC College of Nursing hosted its annual Preceptor Recognition Event to thank dozens of preceptors who make it possible for students to achieve required clinical hours and ultimately graduate from UIC Nursing graduate degree programs.

     

  • Lopez Dunn KarenA multidisciplinary team of researchers including assistant professor Karen Dunn Lopez has published the first quantitative study on the divergent scopes of practice for nurses and doctors. Comparing patient care provided by nurses and doctors using information  documented in the EHR, the researchers found that only 26 percent of patient records showed an overlap in terms.

     

  • UIC’s College of Nursing doctor of nursing practice program climbed three spots to a ranking of No. 12 in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools of 2019, making it the top program among public Midwestern universities in the publication’s annual rankings, released on Mar. 20

     

  • Nearly 70 UIC College of Nursing students, alumni, faculty and staff gathered at Larkin Hall in Chicago’s West Loop on March 15 for an evening of networking and camaraderie at the 2018 Alumni & Student Reception.
