About Nesita Kwan

About Gala Emcee Nesita Kwan

Photo of Nesity KwanNesita Kwan’s career as a broadcast journalist spans nearly 30 years in five broadcast markets, with more than 20 of those years at Chicago’s NBC station.

A multifaceted broadcaster, her work has ranged from big-picture investigations to the individual’s unique story, with a particular focus on health and medicine. She’s anchored a variety of news broadcasts from a weekday talk show to the evening news.

While at NBC, her health internship program was one of the most active in the Midwest, sponsoring up to eight students a year.

Her commitment to medical reporting began early, with her first journalism award coming from the Associated Press for an in-depth look at the cost of malpractice insurance.

She then went on to win numerous Emmys, for both health journalism and general assignment reporting.

Most recently, she’s worked closely with the University of Southern California’s Center for Health Journalism, helping to grow a family of fellowship programs that support national and international healthcare journalists in months-long investigations, increasingly rare in today’s news environment.

Kwan serves on the Advisory Board of the Gaples Institute of Integrative Cardiology and has done numerous trainings for medical professionals, including Ohio University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.

She currently splits her time between Chicago and Santa Barbara, California, where she is a student at Pacifica Graduate Institute, earning a master's in counseling with a focus on depth psychology. Her other interests include cooking and snowboarding.
