Alumni Day Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Paver Project

The UIC College of Nursing recently hosted its third annual alumni day welcoming nursing alums from far and wide; recent grads and many who graduated a number of years ago.  Well represented were BSN’s from the class of 1969 celebrating 45 years as CON alum.

Ribbon Cutting by Dean Weaver

Dean Terri Weaver, faculty and staff, facilitated the day-long event in the CON’s Event Center and the newly designed courtyard.  Alums reunited with classmates and enjoyed a medley of breakfast treats and a luncheon. Also, welcoming the attendees, and praising the college and its active alums, was guest speaker, Linda Roberts, Manager for the Illinois Center for Nursing (ICN) which is the Illinois governing body that oversees representation of more highly skilled nursing professionals and in doing so ease the nursing shortage and improve access to quality health care for Illinois families. Ms. Roberts’ presentation was Affordable Care Act and Nurses’ Roles which highlighted the changes in health insurance and the ever changing role of the nurse in health care.

Three alumni were honored with celebratory Alumni Day Awards for education- Marlene Sefton, PhD ’99, clinical practice-Michael Shelekhov, MS ’13, and research-Susan Rawl, PhD ’89, MS ’85, BSN ’79.

Always supportive and in attendance were Sabina Dambrauskas President of the CON’s Alumni Association Board of Directors and on its External Advisory Board and Christine Schwartz also a member of the CON’s External Advisory Board.  Mark Donovan, Vice Chancellor for UIC Administrative Services, stopped by to show his support.
