Dr. Sefton’s current position is as an Assistant Clinical professor in the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She has been an educator in the FNP program for over 23 years. In this position in a nationally ranked program, she helps develop and monitor the quality of the didactic and clinical content for five program and multiple patient care sites. As a member of the UIC CON Academy of Distinguished Teachers, she is a sought after mentor of faculty and students.
Dr. Sefton is also a board-certified Family Nurse practitioner and has over 30 years’ experience as an FNP within a variety of clinical settings. She is a founding provider in her current practice: Integrated Health Care which is a University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Nursing faculty practice. Within the practice, Dr. Sefton guides advanced practice graduate nursing students educational experience, functions in administrative roles and is a leader among her peers.

Integrated Health Care (IHC) is the department's faculty practice which provides primary physical and mental health care to patients with chronic mental illness, and community patients of all ages. Dr. Sefton has provided care at IHC as an family nurse practitioner for 17 years.
