World Health Organization (WHO) Day 2015 Is Great Success
This year's World Health Organization (WHO) Day was a resounding success! Hosted by the Global Health Leadership Office, the event started with a delicious Thai lunch in celebration of Thai New Year. The audience was treated to a traditional Thai dance performed by PhD Student Aimon Butudom, and Faculty were honored in a Thai water ceremony. Tonda L. Hughes PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor and Associate Dean for Global Health, welcomed the guests and did introductions.
Next came presentations by Professors Carrie S. Klima, PhD, CNM and Susan M. Walsh, DNP, C-PNP. The two professors discussed their work in Malawi and Haiti. The title of Prof. Klima's presentation was "Centering Pregnancy-Africa" and that of Prof. Walsh, "From Here to Haiti". Following this, five graduate and one undergraduate student came to the podium to speak about their international experiences in Sweden, Ireland and Belize. The annual WHO Day event is sponsored by the Virginia M. Ohlson International Studies Endowment. The College has been a WHO Collaborating Centre for International Nursing Development in Primary Health Care since 1986.
