CON Redesignated PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre

The UIC College of Nursing has been re-designated as the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for International Nursing Development in Primary Health Care for the period of 2015-2019.  A Collaborating Centre is "an institution designated by the WHO Director-General to form part of an international collaborative network carrying out activities in support of the organization's program at all levels."

The designation indicates the CON's "scientific and technical standing" at national and international levels, and the high "quality of its scientific and technical leadership" in nursing.

Sam Hostettler from UIC News reports,

"The centers work with PAHO/WHO in promoting cooperation between countries and initiating collaborative activities in nursing and midwifery education, practice, research and leadership to promote innovative primary health care practices.

The goal, said Linda McCreary, clinical assistant professor and director of the center, is to strengthen nursing and midwifery to improve health outcomes for people globally.
