    For two weeks in August 2017, four UIC Nursing students extended their education in the hills of India.

Gruss, PhD, CNP-BC has been awarded the UIC College of Nursing Judith Lloyd Storfjell Distinguished Award for Scholarly Practice.  The award recognizes a UIC College of Nursing faculty or alumnus who has made an outstanding contribution to nursing practice. Gruss was recognized for a career of work that is changing the face of care for aging adults.

  • For the 2017-18 academic year, the UIC College of Nursing awarded scholarships to more students than ever before. A total of 75 top-notch students received more than $550,000 in merit- and financial aid-based scholarships. That’s a 34% increase over the prior year, due in great part to the generosity of alumni and friends.

  • Judith Schlaeger, PhD, CNM, LACAcupuncture has been successfully used to treat such ailments as back and neck pain, osteoarthritis and headaches. Judith Schlaeger is working to discover whether it can help the up to 14 million American women who experience genital pain.

    Schlaeger, assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Nursing, has received a $2 million, five-year grant from the National Institute of Health’s National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to study whether acupuncture can treat vulvodynia, a women’s chronic pain condition.

     

  • Working in collaboration with the University of Indonesia’s College of Nursing, Gabriel Culbert, assistant professor of health systems science in the UIC College of Nursing, is developing a medication adherence intervention to improve antiretroviral therapy coverage among released prisoners in Indonesia.

  • UIC College of Nursing seniors taking the plungeNearly 100 alumni, faculty, staff, colleagues and friends of UIC Nursing gathered on Sept. 9, 2017, to celebrate the groundbreaking of the simulation laboratory in the Chicago campus building’s lower level. The guest of honor was alumna and donor M. Christine Schwartz, whose $5 million gift has enabled the project.

    The UIC College of Nursing congratulates nine alumni, including three faculty members, who have been named to the Illinois Nurses Foundation’s 2017 list of "40 Under 40 Emerging Nurse Leaders."
     

  • Two Faculty and Two Alumnae Selected As Fellows of AAN

    Two distinguished faculty members from the College of Nursing, as well as two outstanding alumnae, have been selected by the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) to join its Class of 2017 fellows.  Fellowship in the AAN is considered the highest honor in the nursing profession.
