It has been announced that Paula P. Meier, PhD, BSN ’71, RN, FAAN will receive the UIC College of Nursing Judith Lloyd Storfjell Distinguished Award for Scholarly Practice. The award recognizes a UIC College of Nursing faculty or alumnus who has made an outstanding contribution to nursing practice. Dr. Meier is most deserving of this prestigious honor.
Dr. Susan Corbridge has been selected as one of the recipients of the 10th Annual Graduate Mentoring Award. The Awards are given out by the Graduate College at UIC and are designed to encourage and award excellence and innovation in all aspects of graduate mentoring.
Dr. Valerie Gruss has been selected to receive the 2015-2016 Teaching Recognition Program (TRP) Award. The Teaching Excellence Review Committee (TERC) concluded that Valerie’s teaching is an excellent example of the high quality of instruction that characterizes the best of UIC and was impressed with the range of her teaching activities and program development.

Dr. Shannon Zenk is the recipient of the 2016 UIC Rising Star Award. This award is given to only 5 UIC early career researchers/scholars who have demonstrated outstanding promise to become future leaders in their area of expertise. Shannon shows more than outstanding promise to become a future leader in her area of science - she is already there! She is at the forefront of science on neighborhood environments, particularly the food environment and health. Her work has significant international impact on policy and environmental changes. As noted in the award announcement below, she has published 64 peer reviewed articles, 7 book chapters, and has been PI or Co-I on grants totaling over $42 million.
Dr. Mary Kapella Appointed Interim Director of Center for Narcolepsy, Sleep and Health Research (CNSHR)
Dr. Mary Kapella, Asst Professor in the UIC College of Nursing’s (CON) Department of Biobehavioral Health Science, has been appointed Interim Director of the Center for Narcolepsy, Sleep and Health Research (CNSHR). A national and international search is currently underway for the next Director of the CNSHR.
