Dr Carolyn Dickens is the Assistant Director of Advanced Practice Providers (APP) in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois. Under her leadership, she has standardized and optimized the practice of APP’s in nine specialties within the Department of Medicine. Dr Dickens maintains a clinical practice in cardiology with an emphasis on improving transitions of care from the inpatient to outpatient setting. Through her involvement in several national health care organizations, Dr Dickens plays a key role in the promotion and excellence of Nurse Practitioners. Dr Dickens is particularly interested in issues related to health policy and improving health disparities of the medically underserved.
Carolyn precepts UIC Acute Care Nurse Practitioner students. She guest lectures at a variety of academic institutions on health literacy and heart failure.
Carolyn works at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System in the inpatient setting as a nurse practitioner managing heart failure patients. She also has an outpatient transitional care clinic.
