Welcome to the Department of Biobehavioral Health Science. Our department focuses on advancing biological, behavioral, and clinical science for adults with complex health disorders, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and other disorders. Our award-winning faculty researchers are outstanding scientists, discovering new and innovative methods for improving health and health care, focusing in such areas as symptom management, sleep, exercise, and quality of life. For a description of these and more, visit our Research page.

Our academic programs include the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-PCNP) and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP). Our AG-ACNP program was ranked 10th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report for 2017.  We have been educating nurses in both these programs for more than 10 years, launching successful nurse-practitioner careers throughout Illinois and the nation.  I invite you visit our Academic Programs page to learn about our programs.

We are also fortunate to have outstanding clinical sites for training, with some of the most talented preceptors in the state, who mentor our students and guide their clinical practicums. Practice opportunities include care for adults across the lifespan in urgent care, palliative care, acute care, specialty clinics, and community settings. The success of our academic programs is in part dependent on our excellent clinical preceptor partners! If you are interested in serving as a preceptor, please visit our Preceptor page.

The Biobehavioral Health Science department is a vibrant community of accomplished teacher, scholars, and researchers, with numerous international, national, and regional awards for teaching and research. Our faculty are leaders in professional organizations and serve on national research and professional boards, such as the Scientific Review Sections for the National Institutes of Health, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, and the Board of Scientific Advisors of the National Cancer Institute.

Come learn, create, and discover with us. Check back for our application deadline in January 15, 2018.
